Lancaster Post 11 is hosting its 27th annual Post 11 Baseball Classic at Beavers Field, starting next Thursday, June 27th, with championship games played Sunday, June 30th.
27 years is a long time to host a baseball tournament. The tournament draws teams from all across the Mid-West to Lancaster and has become a staple in American Legion Baseball.
When asked about the tournament and its longevity, Coach Beavers said, “We really enjoy hosting the tournament. For 27 years now, its brought teams and people into Lancaster from all over the country. The tournament itself has actually been running for nearly 40 years. It originated in Morehead, KY, at Morehead State University, and ran there for 12 years. When leadership changed at the university, we moved it to Beavers Field to keep it going.”
The tournament has been such a success at the Senior Legion level that a Lancaster Post 11 Junior Baseball Classic was added in 2016.
Similar to its big brother, the Junior Classic brings teams and people from across the Mid-West to Lancaster. Over the four day period starting June 6th, nearly 500 people visited Beavers Field. This year’s champ Troy Post 43, who repeated from 2018, beat Lancaster Post 11 in the final game.
