Drew shares a grateful, "roll up your sleeves", hard-working perspective with a strong family orientation

Congratulations to Drew Berstler, Berne Union 2020, for selecting Capital University, Bexley, Ohio, to continue his academic pursuits and play college baseball! Capital's team is known as the 'Crusaders' and competes in the tough Ohio Athletic Conference comprised of NCAA Division III schools.

Going to college and playing college baseball is a big deal for anyone, and Post 11 is very happy for Drew and proud of his accomplishment. He has certainly worked hard and deserves it!

Drew plays for Post 11 and was an integral part of the 2019 squad that landed a season record of 24-12 in a very competitive Junior American Legion Baseball division. The team placed runners-up in the 2019 All American Memorial Classic; finished in the finals for the 2019 Xavier University - Ohio Valley Invitational; and placed runners-up in the ALB Post 11 Jr Baseball Classic. During the season, Drew had an appearance is every game, hit .265 with a .392 obs and had a solid 4.4 ERA. Drew has a live fastball and exceptional speed and intuition on the bases.

Drew exemplifies Post 11's 'Attitude of Gratitude' approach to life and baseball. He is quick to say 'thank you'; listen to his coaches; and support his teammates. He understands college is an opportunity and shows tremendous humility in the chance he has at Capital. Drew landed this college opportunity himself through his hard work and persistency. He initiated the recruiting process and leveraged the tools made available to him to showcase his hard work and skills.  Here is a link to his recruiting profile: https://www.beaversfield.com/berstler. Which college have you committed to?

I have committed to Capital University.

How does it feel to know that you’ll be going to college and why?

I love the feeling I get from knowing that I will be going to college because it makes me realize that everything I've ever worked for has helped me get to this point.

What is your favorite thing about the college you chose and why?

My favorite thing about Capital is the baseball coaches' theology and morals towards both the game and life.

How do you see yourself contributing to your new college baseball team?

I will help the team by bringing in my coach-ability and my ability to learn from other teammates. I look forward to being a part of Capital's baseball program.

What do you know about your new coach? And, how will you go about getting to know him and his staff and what they expect of a new team member?

I know the coaches at Capital hold everyone to the same standard. It doesn't matter if you're a freshman or senior, you must do what they ask and you must be able to take instruction and (constructive) criticism.

What do think will be the most challenging about college baseball?

I think the most challenging part of college baseball will be the adjustment from high school into college where others could have 4 more years of experience and strength than myself.

How does it feel to be facing your final year of school ball?

It is sad knowing that this will be my final year of high school baseball, saying goodbye to the community and friends I have grown up with.

Will you approach your final year of school ball and summer ball differently now that you are a committed college baseball player?

No, I will not approach these final seasons any differently. I will continue to push myself to be better every single day.

What advice would you give other Post 11 players going through the recruiting process and considering a college baseball career?

I would tell other players looking to play college baseball to always give it your 100% and to never get down on yourself, have the 'one pitch at a time' mentality and try to win every single pitch.

What do you think will be the first thing you do when you get to campus?

The first thing I'll do when I get to campus is meet the team, create bonds between players and new friends.

Prediction – how many all-nighters do you think you’ll pull in your freshman year in college?

Well, hopefully I don't have to pull that many. But, if there are days where I have a ton of homework and assignments then, yeah, they'll have to be done.
