Lane shares his passion, focus on family and relationships, and his focus on being a great teammate

Congratulations to Lane Kastely, Canal Winchester 2020, for selecting Edison State Community College in Piqua, Ohio, to continue his academic pursuits and play college baseball! ESCC was established as Ohio's first general and technical college. Its baseball team is known as the 'Chargers' and they competes in the tough Region XII as a Division II member of the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA), regularly playing teams in the Midwest. ESCC is also a participating member of the Ohio Community College Athletic Conference (OCCAC).

Going to college and playing college baseball is a big deal for anyone, and Post 11 is very happy for Lane and proud of his accomplishment. He has certainly worked hard and deserves it!

Lane played for Post 11 in 2019 and 2020 and has been an integral part of the team and its success in both seasons. Lane is a selfless baseball player, leading the team in sacrifices during both seasons. Lane is a competitor, focused and intent on doing a job, and relaxed in tight situations. He always found a way to contribute to his team. In more than 60 games, he landed a fielding percentage of .980, and significantly reduced his teammates' errors in the infield with his amazing ability to scoop the ball at 1st base. Lane played remarkable defense. More importantly, as evidenced by his play and his interactions with his teammates and coaches, Lane is a team-first guy, a consummate teammate. It has been this Post 11 fan's distinct pleasure to play ball with Lane these past two summers and I will surely miss him.

Below is an interview with Lane on his decision to go to college and play baseball. It's a great read. You'll quickly see Lane's passion, focus on family and relationships, and his focus on being a great teammate.

Congratulations, Lane!

Which college have you committed to?   Edison State Community College in Piqua, Ohio.

Have you picked a major yet? If so, what is it and why did you choose it? I will be majoring in Mechanical Engineering. I have always had a passion for understanding how things work.

How does it feel to know that you’ll be going to college and why? I am very happy that I have this opportunity. I’m excited to learn things that will help me get a good job.

What is your favorite thing about the college you chose and why? Edison is an in-state school and my friends and family will be able to attend baseball games.

How do you see yourself contributing to your new college baseball team? When I visited the campus and met Coach Koch, I was allowed to workout with the team. I hope to be a good teammate and future leader.

What do you know about your new coach? His name is Tyler Koch. He played baseball at Vincennes University. He has been the head coach at Edison for two seasons. Before that, he was an assistant coach with Edison. And, how will you go about getting to know him and his staff and what they expect of a new team member?

What do think will be the most challenging about college baseball? There will be a high level of competition within the team and with the teams we will compete against.

How does it feel to be facing your final year of school ball? Unfortunately, it was canceled due to the Coronavirus. I’m happy I will be able to play Post 11 ball this summer!

Will you approach your final year of school ball and summer ball differently now that you are a committed college baseball player? No, I just want to better myself to prepare for college ball.

What advice would you give other Post 11 players going through the recruiting process and considering a college baseball career? Keep in touch with the coaches who contact you and do your best to be noticed by them.

What do you think will be the first thing you do when you get to campus? I’ll be living in an apartment, so I will need to get to know my roommates. They will be guys from the baseball team. I’m also anxious to visit the Edison field. It was February when I visited campus and we did not walk to the field.

Prediction – how many all-nighters do you think you’ll pull in your freshman year in college? Coach Koch has study tables set up each week. I hope to get my studying done early enough so I don’t have to stay up all night. I like to sleep!
