The Ohio American Legion Baseball State Tournament is hosted at Beavers for both the Junior and Senior teams. The Junior Tournament starts Wednesday, 07/11, 9:30AM, with the opening game between Jackson Post 81 and Chillicothe Post 757. The Junior Tournament championship game is set for Saturday, 07/14, at 5:00PM.
Junior teams from all across Ohio come to Beavers Field to compete in a single elimination tournament. The 2018 field will consist of 17 teams. Unlike the Senior division which requires teams to win a District tournament, all Junior teams are bracketed into the state tournament.
The Senior Tournament starts Sunday, 07/25, 10:00AM, and concludes with the championship game on Sunday, 07/29, at 1PM. Eight American Legion Baseball teams come to Beavers Field to compete in a double elimination tournament. To reach the state tournament, the eight teams are required to win their respective District tournaments, which start this weekend.
American Legion Baseball has a long and rich tradition, instilling in young baseball players a since of patriotism and camaraderie. Prior to each state tournament game, the teams together recite the American Legion Baseball Code of Sportsmanship:
“I will:
Keep the rules
Keep faith with my teammates
Keep my temper
Keep myself fit
Keep a stout heart in defeat
Keep my pride under control in victory
Keep a sound soul, a clean mind, and a healthy body”
Countless college and professional baseball players have recited that code.
Come to Beavers Field this week and next to see some great competition. Beavers Field has a full concession stand – “Phyllis’s Home Plate” – and ample seating.
